The History of QHHT and the Life of
Dolores Cannon
Dolores Cannon was born in 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri, and lived with her family until she completed her education in 1947. In 1951, she married her husband, Johnny, and spent the next 21 years traveling the world due to his overseas assignments. During the 1950s and 1960s, she dedicated herself to raising their family as a Navy wife. However, in 1968, a series of significant events forever changed her life.
The Beginnings of Hypnosis
In the 1960s, Dolores and Johnny began exploring simple hypnosis techniques to help people quit smoking or lose weight. In 1968, while stationed at a naval base in Texas, a doctor asked Johnny to use hypnosis to assist a patient who was struggling with severe mental and physical health issues, including obesity, high blood pressure, and kidney problems.
Though they had never used hypnosis in such a way, they agreed to help given the severity of the case. During one of these sessions, the patient unexpectedly began describing scenes from a past life as a ballerina in the 1920s. Dolores and Johnny were astonished to witness the patient adopting a completely different personality, voice patterns, and attitudes. Despite their initial disbelief, they decided to follow the process wherever it led. Over several months, the patient described five distinct past lives, which inspired Dolores to write her first book, Five Lives Remembered (published in 2009).
At the time, hypnosis as a tool for exploring past lives was virtually unheard of. The New Age movement had not yet emerged, modern physics was still decades away, and there were no books or guidelines to reference. This lack of resources prompted the Cannons to develop their own methods and techniques through experimentation and observation. Their curiosity and enthusiasm propelled them into this new frontier.
A Life-Altering Event
Later that year, Johnny was in a devastating car accident caused by a drunk driver. He survived but was left paralyzed from the waist down and lost the use of one arm. This forced him to retire, and the family relocated to Arkansas, where Dolores dedicated herself to caring for Johnny and their four children. During this time, her work with hypnosis took a backseat to family responsibilities.
Returning to Hypnosis
In the late 1970s, after her children had grown and left home, Dolores fully committed to her hypnosis practice. Living in a small rural town, she accepted all kinds of cases, which allowed her to work with a diverse range of clients. Over time, her sessions became increasingly focused on past-life exploration.
Her clients began describing lives that spanned decades, centuries, and even millennia in various locations and environments on Earth. Intrigued by these accounts, Dolores devoted weeks to researching the historical accuracy of her clients’ descriptions. She confirmed that details such as food, clothing, language, currency, professions, social norms, religious beliefs, and even geographical landscapes matched the characteristics of the eras they described.
Understanding the Subconscious
Through thousands of sessions, Dolores observed consistent patterns in the information her clients provided. She discovered that the source of this knowledge was not their conscious minds but a far deeper, wiser part of their being. She named this aspect the “Subconscious” because it exists just below the surface of the conscious mind.
The Subconscious, she realized, could answer any question about a person’s current life or past lives and even provide immediate healing when accessed correctly. Over decades of refinement, she developed what is now known as Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT)—a method that enables direct communication with the Subconscious to facilitate profound insights and healing.
